A New Chef for Pursell Farms
The appointment of Joe Truex as Executive Chef of Pursell Farms was recently announced by David Pursell, CEO and co-founder of the resort.
“Joe is the most highly-credentialed chef to lead our culinary team at Pursell Farms. From roles at some of the top restaurants in New York, to developing a dining concept for a sophisticated international market, to winning over Atlanta’s competitive dining scene with his own restaurant, his accomplishments are extraordinary,” Pursell said. “And yet he’s so at home here, and creating such wonderful dishes, that we believe our guests will not only love his food but enjoy knowing him, too.”
Chef Joe is putting his distinctive mark on the menus at Old Tom’s Pub, a casual sports-bar-meets-Scottish-pub, and the redesigned Clubhouse Grille at the Golf Clubhouse, but it will be the dishes at Arrington, the resort’s signature restaurant, that will be the showcase for Truex’s inspiration for the dining experience at Pursell Farms.
Truex has added a number of new items to Airington’s menu. Start dinner with fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and tomato relish or a Southern favorite — Grammie’s pimento cheese with Wickles Pickles, crudités and crispy, mouthwatering lavash. Then feast on entrees including jumbo Gulf shrimp kebabs, grilled Australian lamb chops, Tuscan cowboy steak and many other delectable dishes.
Prior to his appointment at Pursell Farms, he owned Joe Truex Consulting in Savannah, Ga., offering operations guidance for restaurants, hotels, and private clubs. Previous to that, Chef Joe was Executive Chef at The Landings Club, Skidaway Island, Ga., overseeing five dining outlets, and spent two years as Consulting Chef for Pi Dubai, Dubai UAE.
But it was the opening of Repast as owner/executive chef in Atlanta in 2006, after roles as executive chef at the Swissôtel Atlanta and Chateau Elan Winery and Resort, that catapulted him to the national culinary stage. Repast was named one of Esquire Magazine’s 2006 Best New Restaurants in America—an annual curated list conferring instant attention from serious diners around the country—and gathered high praise from Atlanta’s dining critics and even an invitation from Martha Stewart to cook on her television show. Following Repast, Chef Joe was named executive chef/managing partner of Watershed, the famed Atlanta restaurant started by Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls.
